Self Defense Against a Side Head Lock

How to Defend Against a Side Head Lock
- The side head lock can be a dangerous place to be because the attacker can either take you down to the ground easily or punch you to the face with his opposite hand.
- Here the attacker is attempting to punch to the face. Notice how I turn my head with my face toward his torso so that if he punches, the only target he has is the top of my head.
- From the opposite view you can see how the defender is grabbing the free arm of the attacker and pinning it to his side. This will either stop or minimize the attacker’s ability to punch.
- Back to our original view, the next response is to use your free hand to strike into the groin. This can be done in a slapping motion with the palm or as I am doing in this photo using the rigehand strike. The ridgehand strike uses the thumb side of the hand with the thumb tucked in slightly.
