Defense Against a Tackle
Shihan Michael Pace
Defending Against a Tackle There are a number of ways to handle this type of attack. This sequence assumes the defender has enough time to anticipate that the attack will be in the form of a one or two leg tackle. We will illustrate other defenses for this attack if the attacker is very close or the tackle comes after a two hand push or an attempted sucker punch.
- The attacker attempts to tackle me. As I see him drop down I start to shoot my legs backwards and bring my hands up.
- Placing my hands on his shoulders I push down as I shift my legs back and away from his outstretched arms.
- I continue pushing down as I keep my legs back away from his grip.
- Once he is down I strike with a downward elbow strike as I continue to push down with my other hand. This elbow strike is directed at the upper spine or the base of the skull. Please be aware that this strike can be crippling or even deadly. Caution is advised.
